How Successful Entrepreneurs Create The Lives They Want

Let’s think back to a time when you really wanted to make something. It can be anything. What did you want to create and share with your loved ones or the world?

Did you do it?

Chances are, if you REALLY wanted something to happen, you most likely attempted to start. Maybe you weren’t successful at finishing it, and that’s ok. One way all successful entrepreneurs create a life they want is because of their willingness to pursue the thing that makes them excited.

They don’t worry about playing it safe or drawing inside the lines. They grab their idea and run with it until it builds momentum. So are you running with the thing that makes you happy?

Because if you’re not, I’m here to tell you that there’s absolutely nothing stopping you. You might be thinking “But..the time..and the money!”

Nope. If you really want something, you will take the steps to pursue it. There is always a way. Now, I know there are exceptions to the rule and really extenuating circumstances that you might not have control over. There are always hurdles in life. Your task is to differentiate the REAL hurdles and the mental blocks you create for yourself.

“If you are the kind of person who is waiting for the ‘right’ thing to happen, you might wait for a long time. It’s like waiting for all the traffic lights to be green for five miles before starting the trip.”

– Robert Kiyosaki of richdad.com

Entrepreneurial success is all about recognizing that the mental blocks are small obstacles to jump over.

Unfortunately, that’s where a lot of people get stuck. Primary reason? Fear.

There’s fear of failure. You have fear of looking like a fool. Additionally there’s the fear of shame, fear of losing, fear of succeeding, fear of the unknown. That’s a lot of fear!

You get it. You CANNOT succeed if you’re constantly fearful of everything. So what can you do about it? How can you create entrepreneurial success for yourself?

You can break things down into small steps.

This is your first step to success. You can simply start putting one foot in front of the other. Where did you stop yourself or where did you encounter a major roadblock in pursuing what you love? Maybe you thought about making your hobby into a business but didn’t know where to go with it or whether you’ll ever reach success.

Well, who cares?

Who cares if it doesn’t succeed in the end? The important thing is that you’re doing what you love and you’re taking steps to making the life you want to lead! You have the power of that choice.

Break down the fear.

Are you finding yourself paralyzed from making a choice in moving forward? It might look something like this.

Since we’re a learning company, we’ll go with a teaching example. You’re about to finally commit to starting a class and earning some money by teaching something you love. (Nice! 😉 If you actually want to do that, check this article out.) This idea is really starting to come together. You love photography and lately you’ve been going through a bit of a lull booking clients, so you decide to teach your craft and earn a bit of cash on the side.

This idea is really coming together while you’re washing your hair in the shower. Stay with me here. Not in the shower, at the idea part I mean.

You go on with your day, think about your idea a bit more, tell yourself you’ll start looking into it tomorrow and that’s it. You’re done.

See the problem here?

You went from 0 to 60 in the shower and everything in between is looking real hazy all of a sudden.

Break it down!

So what can we do? We can break down the big idea into the steps first like we talked about. What specifically can I teach students about photography? Oh, nice, I know, I can teach them about the basics of composition when taking portrait photographs.

Get specific if you want to create your own entrepreneurial success! Get nice and clear on your first step. Now the fear steps in.

There are a million photography courses out there! Why would anyone buy mine? What if I start spending all this time recording my video and it’s a flop?

So we got through the first inaction by getting nice and clear and all of a sudden we’re hit by another roadblock.

Create Your Own Success

This is your turn to ask what’s the worst that can happen. You spend the time creating something that might not sell or you don’t create at all? If this is something you enjoy, don’t let the fear of failure stop you! You will enjoy the creation process whether or not you succeed.

Let me put this another way, you will NEVER fail because everything that you do which you enjoy is your success.

Any ‘failure’ you encounter will build you up and every success will reinforce the mental muscle of overcoming barriers. It’s normal to have ups and down- I learned quite a few lessons in my entrepreneurial journey. So don’t stop before you even start. Every step is your start and all those steps together become your success.

Success is achieved and maintained by those who try and keep trying.
